The façade of Santa Maria del Fiore and Giotto’s Bell Tower

Florence, Tuscany, Italy, August 11, 1992. The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, construction began in 1296, is one of the largest churches in the world. The 19th-century neo-Gothic façade is adjacent to Giotto’s bell tower, and, in the center of the shot, you can see part of Brunelleschi’s dome. At the time of the photo, partial restoration work was underway. Tourists and worshippers are visible below.
